Yahoo! Movies has debuted the first photos from Focus Features' The Eagle of the Ninth, coming to theaters
in the fall of 2010. The adventure film, directed by Kevin Macdonald, stars Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell,
Donald Sutherland, Mark Strong and Tahar Rahim. The film is adapted from Rosemary Sutcliffe's 1954 novel, which saw a young Roman man named Marcus Aquilla (Tatum) venturing out to discover what happened to
the Ninth Legion, commanded by his father, which vanished in the wilds of barbarian-heavy Scotland 15 years previously.
The Eagle of the Ninth is set in the dangerous world of second-century Britain. In 140 AD, twenty years
after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion
Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the
commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his Celtic slave Esca (Bell), Marcus, disguised as an occultist, sets out across Hadrian's
Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, to investigate whether
any of the Ninth are left alive, make peace with his father's
memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth.
